Job description

Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) – Vascular Intermediate Care | Stepdown at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, home to Hampton Roads' only Level I Trauma Center. Full-time, 36 hours per week, day or night shift (7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.), every other weekend, holiday rotation required.

9 Kaufman is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit specializing in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant care. As part of the Surgical Specialty Team, RNs, LPNs, Nursing Care Partners, Unit Ambassadors, and Clinical Support Associates work side by side to deliver exceptional patient care.

Why 9 Kaufman?

You will care for a diverse patient population and gain hands-on experience with complex vascular procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. The unit also serves as an extension of the renal/pancreas transplant program, partnering closely with the outpatient transplant center. Every bed is monitored, giving nurses the opportunity to strengthen telemetry skills while expanding expertise in surgical specialty and transplant nursing. Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4.

New Grad RNs are Welcome to Apply!

This unit welcomes new graduate nurses and experienced nurses moving into this specialty. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice. Starting pay rate for new graduate registered nurses with less than 1 year of experience is $36.00/hour.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
