Associate Director, Employment Conditions Product and Process Design
Bristol Myers Squibb
Summary
The Associate Director, Employment Conditions Product and Process Design serves as the accountable business owner for all Employment Condition activities within the People Services (PS) domain. This role fills a critical ownership gap by establishing clear process and product stewardship for employment condition topics that span the full BMS employment lifecycle and are administered through People Services. This leader is responsible for driving global process design, governance, and operational excellence — from initial framework development to system enablement — ensuring alignment with cross-functional partners including HR Business Partners, Legal, Finance, Centers of Excellence for Compensation and Benefits, IT, and internal PS stakeholders. The role is central to maintaining business continuity, optimizing the employee experience, and strengthening PS capabilities at scale.
Job description
Key Responsibilities
Process & Product Ownership
- Own the design, governance, and lifecycle management of global employment condition processes and all related documentation, applying Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) principles to drive continuous evolution, standardization, and scalability

- Serves as the primary process and product owner for employment condition activities with no pre-existing ownership structure — requiring the ability to build structure in ambiguity
- Design and govern the end-to-end process for requesting, reviewing, approving, and implementing employment condition changes, balancing employee needs, legal accuracy, and operational efficiency
- Maintain and continuously improve a centralized repository of employment condition templates, policies, and process artifacts to ensure accessibility, version control, and audit readiness
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure ongoing US and global compliance with regulatory requirements and applicable employment laws across all countries and regions where BMS employees operate
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments to proactively identify compliance obligations and operational impacts, translating changes into actionable process updates
- Partner with Legal and HR Business Partners to assess and mitigate risk, ensuring People Services processes reflect current legal requirements and minimize organizational exposure
- Establish and maintain a compliance monitoring framework for employment condition changes, including escalation protocols and accountability structures
Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence
- Partner strategically with HRIT, HRBP, Legal, Finance, and Centers of Excellence to assess cross-functional impacts to People Services, influencing decisions that ensure risk mitigation and optimal operational outcomes
- Lead and coordinate the PS due diligence process through comprehensive data-gathering, stakeholder engagement, and synthesis of findings to enable informed, timely decision-making
- Act as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to internal PS stakeholders and senior leadership on employment condition topics, providing guidance on process, policy, and systems implications
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and evaluate emerging technologies and market trends relevant to employment conditions and HR operations, providing strategic insights and recommendations to enhance business competitiveness and innovation
- Champion a product mindset within People Services by applying structured methodologies to problem-solving, process improvement, and technology enablement
- Drive operational excellence initiatives that enhance the employee experience, reduce manual effort, and improve process cycle times across the employment condition landscape
