Company overview
Spear Bio is an innovative biotechnology company founded in 2021 and headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts. The company specializes in developing ultra-sensitive protein biomarker detection technology for research and diagnostic applications. Spear Bio's proprietary Successive Proximity Extension Amplification Reaction (SPEAR) technology employs a unique 2-factor authentication mechanism to precisely measure protein biomarkers at attomolar levels from sub-microliter sample volumes. This breakthrough technology enables unprecedented sensitivity in detecting low-abundance biomarkers, particularly valuable for neurodegenerative disease research and early disease diagnosis. The company's SPEAR UltraDetect™ assays focus on neurological biomarkers including pTau 217, pTau 231, GFAP, and Neurofilament Light chain, with applications in Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injury, and other neurological conditions. Spear Bio recently secured FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for its pTau 217 blood test and raised $45 million in Series A funding to accelerate product commercialization and expand its biomarker menu.
