The Billing Support Specialist is responsible for various auditing and clerical tasks to ensure both billing accuracy and compliance.
Job description
Essential Functions
- Verify and enter client group and individual attendance into the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Work with internal partners (i.e. Assessors and Counselors) and payers to verify or obtain funding for clients and ensure accuracy of funding details
- Maintain regular communication with Billing Manager and Clinical Staff regarding client data pertinent to records and the billing function
- Complete and/or monitor accurate and timely data in Drug and Alcohol Abuse Normative Evaluation System (DAANES)
- Complete monthly insurance verifications or changes using state MN-ITS system or EHR. When changes occur, work with clinical staff to complete necessary paperwork and obtain new authorizations in a timely manner, avoiding non-coverage and non-payment
- Submit insurance claims to clearinghouse or individual insurance companies electronically
- Follow up with insurance carriers on unpaid or rejected claims and resubmitting the claims as necessary
- Prepare appeal letters to insurance carriers when not in agreement with claim denials; collect necessary information to accompany appeal
- Contribute to department process improvement ideas, training, and implementation
Education/Licensure/Certification
- Previous experience with an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system or computer billing system strongly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with billing experience in Procentive.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to achieve outcomes
- Must have analytical, data entry, mathematical and problem-solving skills
- Must have a working knowledge of issues regarding confidentiality
