Congress Engagement Strategy Manager
Roche
Summary
The Congress Engagement Strategy Manager owns the strategic design, governance, and optimization of Genentech's congress strategy for our Therapeutic Areas. Acting as the single congress strategist for their therapy area (TA), the Engagement Strategy Manager reads the portfolio and pipeline, sets the congress calendar, and defines the objectives, format, and engagement approach for each congress before handing clear plans to the operational partners who deliver them.
Job description
This is a senior, partnering role. The Engagement Strategy Manager works hand in hand with Medical Affairs, Brand, and other cross-functional leaders to align narrative and messaging across cross-functional, multi-brand, and TA-level congresses, and to ensure every congress presence is purpose-driven, appropriately structured, and positioned to deliver meaningful outcomes for Genentech and for participating HCPs.
Key Responsibilities
1. TA Congress Strategy Optimization
- Develop a broader therapy-area congress strategy tailored to TA needs, brand maturity, and product life cycle
- Read the portfolio and pipeline to anticipate demand, the right congresses to prioritize, and timing across the year
- Set the congress calendar for the therapy area and define the presence type and objectives for each congress
- Support the definition of measurable congress objectives that align to TA and brand strategy
- Translate standardized congress engagement products and cross-functional demand into TA-specific congress scope and activation plans
2. Stakeholder Orchestration
- Ensure brand, medical, and other functions are coordinated so that narrative and messaging align at cross-functional, multi-brand, and TA-level congresses
- Act as the primary strategic partner for Medical Affairs, Brand, and other functional leaders on TA congress strategy
- Orchestrate cross-brand and functional congress presence to optimize effectiveness and cost
- Provide guidance on congress vendor strategy and governance (e.g., booth/exhibit vendors, meeting planners, housing and travel partners)
- Collaborate with the Event Operations Manager and BPO/BPM to activate TA, brand, and medical needs, and to ensure congress readiness for delivery
3. HCP Engagement & Governance
- Ensure congress-related HCP engagements are appropriately classified (for example, promotional or non-promotional) and aligned with HCO engagement standards
- Provide guidance to keep congress intent aligned with internal policies and compliance frameworks, and act as an escalation point for congress-related collaboration considerations
4. Insights
- Ensure TA-level congress strategy and congress-level objectives are defined and documented
- Provide data-driven performance overviews of TA congress program health
- Collaborate with the BPO/BPM to measure congress performance against TA strategic objectives
- Synthesize insights across congresses to refine future congress strategy, and share structured feedback with Execution Leads to improve future congress activation quality
5. Society & Omnichannel Engagement Integration
- Serve as the connective layer between congress strategy and Genentech's broader omnichannel and product ecosystem, ensuring congress presence complements CRM, digital, and other engagement channels rather than operating in isolation
- Maintain working fluency in end-to-end HCP customer journeys, understanding how congress touchpoints fit within pre-congress, onsite, and post-congress omnichannel engagement
- Partner with product and platform owners (for example, omnichannel, content, and CRM product teams) to ensure congress engagement products and standards align with Genentech's broader product operating model
- Build and maintain relationships with key medical and scientific societies relevant to the TA (for example, ASCO, ASH) to inform congress strategy, sponsorship approach, and long-term society engagement planning
- Define and track measurement frameworks for congress and society engagement effectiveness, ensuring alignment with compliant measurement approaches
- Orchestrate congress activity as part of the broader always-on engagement plan, coordinating timing and sequencing with other channel owners to avoid duplicative or conflicting HCP outreach
