Lead Scientist
Danaher Corporation
Summary
The Lead Scientist is responsible for leading technically rigorous development of cell culture media and associated high-throughput workflows. This role will design and execute studies spanning formulation, shake-flask and bioreactor systems, with particular emphasis on perfusion applications, to translate customer and business needs into robust, manufacturable products.
Job description
This position reports to the Sr Scientist and is part of the Cell Culture Product Innovation team located in Logan Utah and will be an on-site role.
What you will do:
- Lead cell culture media development programs from concept and feasibility through formulation optimization, scale-up, technology transfer, and commercialization, as applicable.
- Design, execute, and interpret cell culture experiments using shake flasks, high-throughput systems, and bioreactors; apply sound experimental design, statistical analysis, and data visualization to reach clear technical decisions.
- Develop and optimize media and process strategies for mammalian cell culture, including perfusion processes at laboratory, pilot, or manufacturing-relevant scale.
- Serve as a technical lead on cross-functional project teams, partnering with Product and Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Environmental Health and Safety, Regulatory, Analytical, and other stakeholders to manage technical risk and deliver project outcomes.
- Independently identify and solve complex technical problems, document work in protocols and technical reports, present conclusions and recommendations, and share relevant technical knowledge and best practices.
Who you are:
- Bachelor's degree in biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience; or a master's degree with 6+ years; or a PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience developing mammalian cell culture media, including formulation, preparation, screening, and performance evaluation using shake-flask and/or bioreactor models.
- Hands-on experience with perfusion cell culture at any scale, including experimental design, operation, sampling, data analysis, and interpretation of process performance.
- Proficiency in high-throughput experimentation and assay development, including development or qualification of methods that enable reliable formulation or process decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design experiments, analyze complex datasets using statistical methods or Design of Experiments, and communicate conclusions in technical reports and presentations.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Perfusion capable ambr250 HT, ambr250 modular, ambr15, or other automated microbioreactor systems, including study setup, execution, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
- Leading cross-functional scientific or product development projects from concept through commercialization, including scale-up or technology transfer to manufacturing.
- Cell retention technologies, intensified cell culture, single-use bioreactors, process characterization, Quality by Design, or technology transfer into a regulated manufacturing environment.
