Summary

Expert level electrical and electro-mechanical problem solving skills, maintenance, repair, and installation support for automated manufacturing equipment. In addition to sophisticated electrical and controls work, this role requires performing Manufacturing Technician duties—such as clearing equipment jams, loading materials, routine cleaning, and basic mechanical adjustments—to support continuous production. Partner with engineering, operations, maintenance, and quality teams to improve uptime, safety, and product quality.

Job description

Responsibilities

  • Fix, repair, and maintain PLC-controlled equipment, control panels, motor controls, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, HMIs, and robotic systems.
  • Read, interpret, and act on electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and document work in the maintenance management system.
  • Identify reliability risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support equipment installation, debugging, qualification, production start-up, validation, and process development.
  • Perform Manufacturing Technician tasks as needed to sustain production: clear jams, load and align raw materials, perform routine cleaning, make basic mechanical adjustments, and assist operators to minimize downtime.
  • Lead or support root cause investigations for equipment/process non-conformances and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide technical coaching and on-the-job certification for Manufacturing Technicians Level III and below.
  • Apply continuous improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma concepts, root cause analysis) to increase safety, reliability, and productivity.
  • Maintain strict alignment to electrical safety practices including lockout/tagout, NFPA 70E/arc-flash controls, and energized electrical work protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant technical, electrical, or industrial maintenance experience, or equivalent (military, trade-school, or apprenticeship experience considered).
  • Electrical Journeyman license or documented completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program (or equivalent documented experience).
  • Proven hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, motor controls, sensors, drives, control panels, and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, ladder logic, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
  • Experience or proven ability to perform Manufacturing Technician tasks (clearing jams, loading materials, routine cleaning, basic mechanical adjustments) while maintaining safety and production priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication and the ability to work independently or with multi-functional teams.
  • Ability to pass applicable technical assessments (for example, the Ramsay Electrical/Mechanical Proficiency Test) and site-specific electrical qualifications.
  • Willingness to work rotating 12-hour shifts (6 am–6 pm or 6 pm–6 am), including weekends.
  • Physical ability to stoop, kneel, walk, climb, reach, lift up to 25 lbs., and perform other routine manufacturing tasks.
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain Blue Badge Certification per site requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience, certificate, or military technical training in an electrical, automation, or related field.
  • Experience with NEC, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout procedures, and arc-flash mitigation in an industrial environment.
  • Experience supporting high-volume automated packaging or manufacturing equipment, machine vision, sterilizers, dosing systems, or injection molding.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma methods (Yellow/Green Belt) and experience applying process improvement to reduce variation and improve equipment reliability.
