Summary

HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team studying mechanisms of cellular proteostasis coordination across mammalian tissues.

Job description

This position will be in support of Department of Anatomy, Physiology & Genetics (APG) Dr. Rosarda's laboratory. The Rosarda Laboratory studies cell type specific patterns of stress pathway signaling using in vivo, in vitro, and bioinformatic approaches. We use chemical-biological and chemical-genetic approaches for activating stress responsive signaling pathways in mammalian cells and murine models, high throughput and single cell sequencing strategies for defining stress pathway activity, and we are developing novel approaches for defining mechanisms of action for pharmacologic and metabolomic regulators of stress signaling.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, executes, and implements scientific research experiments and/or development protocols using in vitro and/or in vivo (murine) models with a strong level of independence.
  • Develop new research methods and protocols as needed to advance the project.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  • Keeps detailed records of experimental design, protocol, results, and data processing.
  • Will conduct in vivo animal studies (mice), including the administration of compounds via intraperitoneal (IP) injection.
  • Analyze complex data, evaluate results, and summarize research findings effectively.
  • Help mentor, train, and supervise junior team members, such as graduate or undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to collaborative research projects both within the lab and with external partners.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Doctoral degree required. Minimum of 0-5 years' experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Proven knowledge of appropriate scientific area and ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Experience with maintenance and manipulation of mammalian cell lines, including immortalized cell lines, human iPSCs, and/or primary cells is required.
  • Prior experience with standard molecular biology approaches (e.g. nucleic acid isolation, protein purification, western blotting) is required.
  • Quantitative and statistical analysis experience required; GraphPad Prism experience is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics (e.g. RNA sequencing analysis) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with standard scientific computing languages (e.g. R, python) is beneficial.
  • Experience with animal husbandry, survival surgery, behavioral testing, and tissue processing is preferred.
  • Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols with animals which involve specialized procedures is beneficial.
  • Experience with microscopy, seahorse metabolic analysis, or flow cytometry is beneficial.
  • Ability to obtain a T1/Public Trust Background Check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
