Summary

The Resnek Family Center for Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is a unique philanthropically funded research initiative intended to have a broad impact on primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) — a liver disease for which there is currently no effective therapies or a cure. We are building a multidisciplinary team which aims to develop therapies in PSC and intends to have a larger impact on liver diseases more broadly. The team works collaboratively with other researchers at BWH, MGB and Harvard Medical School, as well as with colleagues at institutions around the world, catalyzing the growing PSC research community to tackle the disease in an integrated and strategic way. The world’s only center dedicated to PSC research, the Resnek Center is making dramatic advances and is embarking on a growth strategy to accelerate its progress and expand its presence and impact within MGB and globally. The Program Director (PD) reporting to and partnering with the Resnek Center director and primary investigator (PI), is a senior leader with overall responsibility in developing, resourcing, and executing this strategy.

The Program Director (PD) reporting to and partnering with the Resnek Center director and primary investigator (PI), is a senior leader with overall responsibility in developing, resourcing, and executing this strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the PI to design and implement an efficient and effective organizational framework aligned with the center's goals and that serves as a model for other centers and programs across MGB.
  • Act as a trusted strategic advisor to the center’s PI, shaping and executing short- and long-term plans that strengthen engagement across MGB, expand impact on liver disease, and drive organizational growth, sustainability, and leadership succession. Define key benchmarks, monitor progress, and effectively communicate outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Foster dynamic partnerships across MGB’s departments, divisions, institutes, centers, and programs to engage leading experts from diverse fields, fuel innovation, accelerate progress, and amplify the center’s scope and impact.
  • Cultivate high-impact external partnerships that advance the center’s mission and extend its influence locally, nationally, and globally. Enhance existing relationships with organizations such as PSC Partners, the American Liver Foundation, and current research collaborators while actively pursuing new strategic alliances with organizations and individuals who share the center’s goals.
  • Work closely with the Resnek Center PI to build and lead a growing, cohesive team. Foster a positive, inclusive culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, and professional growth while ensuring alignment with MGB’s policies.
  • Drive long-term financial sustainability and growth by identifying and securing diverse funding sources, including philanthropy, government and private grants, corporate and industry partnerships, and innovative business ventures.
  • In collaboration with the AMC Development Office, design and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to sustain and advance the center. Identify strategic funding opportunities and priorities at all levels to enhance donor engagement and drive long-term investment. Foster meaningful relationships with major donors—including the Resnek family—to maximize their philanthropic impact.
  • In collaboration with MGB Office of Strategic Communications, lead a strategic communications plan that positions the Resnek Center as a global leader in PSC research. Oversee website management, social media, digital platforms, content creation, and media relations to enhance visibility, ensure engaging and accessible content, and establish the center as a premier hub for news and information.
  • Manage and expand the Resnek Center scientific advisory committee, a vital strategic resource of leading experts who provide guidance, foster innovation and review progress and outcomes. Explore establishing other internal and external committees or groups that help achieve the center’s goals.
  • Oversee research conferences and high-profile meetings that highlight the latest advances, share finding and position the Resnek Center as an integral thought leader in the field.
  • Maintain deep expertise in PSC and liver disease to inform critical decision-making. Stay ahead of industry trends, best practices, and emerging developments in healthcare, keeping a pulse on key companies, organizations, and leaders shaping the field.
