Company overview
Medgene is a Brookings, South Dakota-based animal health and biotechnology company focused on developing innovative veterinary vaccines for livestock and companion animals. Founded in 2011 from South Dakota State University research, the company leverages its proprietary ISPRIME prescription platform technology—a USDA-CVB licensed baculovirus-based protein expression system—to rapidly develop targeted vaccines against emerging and existing diseases. Medgene serves veterinarians and producers across swine, cattle, deer, rabbit, and companion-animal practices, offering a broad portfolio that includes vaccines for porcine pathogens, bovine respiratory and enteric diseases, tick and horn fly ectoparasites, and rabbit hemorrhagic disease. The company integrates field diagnostics, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence to accelerate vaccine design, enabling development within weeks rather than years. Medgene has shipped over one million vaccine doses, partners with many of the top U.S. pork producers and major veterinary clinics, and has earned national recognition for its rapid-response capabilities, including USDA, NIH, and DHS funding support. Its mission is to provide fast, safe vaccines to shield animals from the onslaught of disease.
