This role works with talented reproductive biologists to continue to develop, implement, and maintain strategic plans of the embryology department. This position reports to the Director of Assisted Reproduction.

This position is based out of Dallas, TX and relocation assistance is provided.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop protocols for transvaginal, transrectal, or laparoscopic oocyte collection in a variety of novel, model species.
  • Optimize estrus synchronization and superovulation protocols for species in which frequent handling is difficult.
  • Collaborate with the embryology team to optimize conditions for oocyte and embryo transport between animal facilities and laboratories at Colossal HQ.
  • Stay up to date on relevant literature, identify novel protocols/procedures that may be applicable for Colossal projects, and conduct associated experiments to continuously improve results.
  • Maintain stable rates of success and troubleshoot protocols as needed.
  • Some traveling required for training and implementing novel assisted reproductive technologies into non-model organisms

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong expertise in comparative reproductive biology, including endocrinology, oocyte maturation, and pre-implantation embryo development.
  • Experience with multiple species, including non-traditional (wildlife) models preferred.
  • Transrectal palpation and ultrasound for monitoring ovarian activity and early pregnancy.

Company overview

Colossal Biosciences is a pioneering American biotechnology and genetic engineering company founded in 2021 by Harvard geneticist George Church and serial entrepreneur Ben Lamm. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the company specializes in developing radical new technologies to advance the field of genomics and species restoration. Colossal is the first company to apply CRISPR gene-editing technology for the purpose of species de-extinction, beginning with ambitious projects to revive the woolly mammoth, Tasmanian tiger, dodo bird, dire wolf, and other extinct species. The company's mission extends beyond de-extinction to include protection of critically endangered species and repopulation of critical ecosystems that support biodiversity and ecosystem health. With over 170 scientists and advisors, Colossal combines cutting-edge genetic engineering with conservation biology to address the global biodiversity crisis. The company has raised significant funding, achieving unicorn status and becoming Texas' first decacorn with a valuation exceeding $10 billion. Beyond its scientific endeavors, Colossal has spun out software platforms like Form Bio and established the Colossal Foundation to support conservation efforts worldwide.
