Summary

The Senior Data Analyst – Nursing Business & Operations is an operations-focused analytics partner who helps nursing leaders understand what the data means, why it matters, and how it can be used to improve performance. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong analytical thinking and a practical understanding of healthcare or nursing operations, staffing models, labor management, productivity, and financial drivers.

Job description

Rather than focusing solely on technical reporting, this position requires someone who can connect workforce, financial, productivity, and operational trends to real-world decisions that support staffing efficiency, budget performance, workforce sustainability, and high-quality patient care. The analyst serves as a bridge between data and practice, partnering with nursing leadership to identify trends, evaluate risks, understand root causes, and translate findings into actionable operational strategies.

The Senior Data Analyst works in close partnership with nursing operational leaders, finance, and HR to ensure accurate, transparent, and meaningful performance reporting. Reporting to Sr. Ops Program Director, this position independently develops data solutions that support safe, high-quality patient care and responsible resource utilization in a unionized, Magnet-designated environment.

  • Conduct workforce forecasting and scenario modeling based on volume, acuity, and operational changes.
  • Identify trends, risks, and retention opportunities to support workforce sustainability.

Nursing Financial & Budget Support

  • Support Sr. Ops Program Director to prepare, monitor, and track performance against the nursing labor budget.
  • Produce monthly and ad hoc budget variance analyses, including root cause analysis.
  • Support labor expense forecasting, productivity targets, and year-end financial projections.
  • Assist with annual budget development, staffing plans, and productivity standard setting.
  • Translate financial data into clear, executive-ready insights for nursing leaders.

Productivity & Operational Performance Analytics

  • Monitor and report on nursing productivity and utilization metrics (e.g., HPPD, labor cost per case/day).
  • Analyze census, throughput, acuity, and operational drivers impacting resource needs.
  • Develop dashboards and scorecards aligned with nursing strategic priorities and organizational goals.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives through data-driven analysis.

External Benchmarking & Regulatory Reporting

  • Prepare, validate, and submit required nursing and workforce data to national benchmarking and external entities.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and alignment across internal and external reports.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on benchmarking methodologies and comparative analysis.

Data Management, Integration & Visualization

  • Extract, integrate, and validate data from multiple systems (staffing, payroll, financial, and clinical systems).
  • Perform data profiling, source-to-target mapping, and quality assurance oversight.
  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, automated reports, and standardized analytic tools.
  • Troubleshoot complex SQL scripts and reporting solutions.
  • Ensure data governance, metric documentation, and compliance with security standards.

Collaboration & Strategic Support

  • Act as a trusted analytics partner to nursing leaders, finance, HR, and operational teams.
  • Present insights and recommendations in clear, concise formats suitable for executive and frontline audiences.
  • Support special projects related to workforce strategy, operational efficiency, and strategic initiatives.
  • Educate stakeholders on data interpretation and promote self-service analytics capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare (Required)
