We're working a minimum of 4 days a week onsite as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary.
The Affera Mapping and Ablation System is an innovative medical technology designed to treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The system involves advanced mapping techniques to create detailed images of the heart's electrical activity, helping physicians identify abnormal areas causing arrhythmias. Once identified, the Affera Ablation System delivers targeted energy to disrupt these abnormal signals, restoring normal heart rhythm.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, real-time visualization applications in a collaborative team environment
- Take ownership of key software features, driving their development from concept through to production
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware, QA, and DevOps, to ensure seamless integration and high-quality software delivery
- Design, implement, and maintain network and serial communication interfaces between desktop applications and connected hardware, supporting reliable exchange of commands, device status, and real-time telemetry
- Integrate asynchronous device communication with the UI and application data layers, maintaining responsiveness through appropriate buffering, thread synchronization, timeout handling, connection monitoring, and recovery from communication failures
- Optimize software performance, ensuring low latency, high reliability, and scalability in a regulated environment
- Implement and maintain robust software testing strategies, including unit, integration, and automated testing of communication interfaces under normal and fault conditions, such as delayed or malformed messages, connection loss, and reconnection
- Document software designs, coding practices, and development workflows to maintain high levels of clarity and consistency within the team
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and methodologies within the team
- Attend and participate in pre-clinical in-vivo system evaluations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience
- Expertise working in Python/C++ environments, ideally with ROS or device-level comms
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing Ethernet/TCP/IP communication interfaces using socket programming, including connection management, message serialization, and secure communication with certificate-based authentication
- Experience implementing serial device interfaces, such as RS-232 or USB-to-serial, including baud rate and port configuration, message framing, checksum validation, flow control, and timeout handling
- Ability to troubleshoot network and serial communication issues using packet captures, serial logs, and device simulators, with an understanding of asynchronous I/O and thread-safe integration with desktop UI applications
- Experience in desktop UI development (e.g. Qt/QML, PyQt, OpenGL, WPF, or similar)
- Experience building real-time or data-rich interfaces for technical or clinical applications
- Strong understanding of software architecture and design patterns
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges
- Experience with software version control systems, such as Git
- Experience working with UI designers and implementing UI designed in Figma or similar
- Experience with Agile development methodologies
- Experience with cloud-based platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure)
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices, including automated testing and deployment
- Experience working in a regulated environment
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience
