UI/UX Designer – Advanced Imaging (Bedford, MA)
Philips
Summary
This is an exciting new role to help shape how clinicians see and interact with Philips intravascular imaging and physiology products. You’ll own the visual and interaction design of software used in the cath lab to diagnose and treat vascular disease, from early concept through commercial release.
Job description
Your role
- Own the look and feel of the products: typography, color, layout, iconography and motion, across both Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and Software in a Medical Device (SiMD).
- Build and maintain the Advanced Imaging design system (components, tokens and patterns), aligned with Philips design language, so features ship consistently across platforms.
- Design for the cath lab: screens read at a distance on boom-mounted monitors, operated tableside, in low light and under time pressure.
- Deliver production-ready UI: high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, specs and assets engineering can build from directly. Partner with software engineers through implementation and confirm the shipped UI matches the design.
- Translate user needs, workflow observation and clinician feedback into interaction concepts. Run formative usability evaluations. Contribute UI specifications and use-related inputs to the usability engineering file (IEC 62366-1) with Human Factors and Quality.
- Work cross-functionally with R&D, Marketing, Clinical and Regulatory, and with designers across Philips IGT to be part of the first design team embedded directly within the IGTD business, shaping its ways of working.
You’re the right fit if
- You have 3+ years designing UI for software products that reached market, with a portfolio required. It should show visual craft (typography, color, iconography, layout) and data-dense, task-critical screens.
- You’re expert in Figma (components, variables, auto layout, prototyping) and Adobe Creative Cloud. You’ve built or maintained a design system. You have working fluency in UX methods: user stories, workflow analysis, contextual inquiry and usability testing. Experience facilitating design sprints is a plus. Experience in medical devices or other regulated, high-consequence UI (aviation, automotive, industrial) is strongly preferred. Familiarity with design controls and IEC 62366-1 is a plus.
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree in interaction design, visual/graphic design, HCI or a related field.
- You communicate clearly, visually and verbally, and can articulate the clinical ecosystem in which the user’s challenge arises.
- You must be able to successfully perform the minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position. You’re comfortable working onsite in Bedford, MA and observing cases in hospital cath labs.
